Sonya Midkiff, Registered Dental Assistant
Sonya joined Dr. Britton's team in August 2010 and the time has just flown by. Initially working the front office more than 20 years ago, Sonya quickly realized assisting was her perfect fit. She has a variety of experience that most dental assistants don't have and her knowledge and is truly impressive. She is great at anything asked of her in the office, from making temporaries, taking patient photos, learning new technology that Dr. Britton is always adding to our repertiore, and making patients feel comfortable and welcome. Dr. Britton's meticulous attention to detail paired with his laid back style assured her this was home. She loves Dr. Britton's committment to continuing education and has always strived to learn and improve her dental assisting skills.
Sonya grew up in Arlington and went to Bowie High School. Married for almost 25 years, Sonya and Mark live in Euless and have one beautiful daughter, Meagan who has been a competitive figure skater for over 10 years and has hopes to join Disney on Ice after completing her senior year at Trinity in May 2012. She is also an avid baker, making and selling cookies online to help support her daughter's training. But she is not just a baker...she is the Birthday, Anniversary, and Special Occasion Dessert Maker! She makes to-die-for Red Velvet Cakes and cookies, Banana Split cake, and anything else she thinks we might want to try. And who doesn't love a homemade treat?
Alison Nixon, Registered Dental Hygienist
There are a few things in life that are absolutes. Alison is the type of person that “absolutely” knows what she wants and then goes about her business of making it happen. We are so fortunate to have this strong, smart and funny addition to the hygiene department. When we say strong, we mean that this small framed wisp of a woman is a beast on the Ironman circuit. She has competed and finished 5 of these unforgiving tests of fortitude that have taken her to far flung parts of the country. There have been countless other races, but we have come to believe that when she makes the annual pilgrimage back to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, for her beloved Alien Race, she is yet again abducted, studied and infused with special powers. Have we mentioned that she is smart as a whip? We're not sure that the Aliens can take credit for her oversized cerebrum…her parents may take exception to that. After graduating from Texas Tech with a Bachelor of Arts in 1996, she attended Tarrant County College earning her Hygiene degree in 2001. She will gladly teach you all you need to know about the care of your pearly whites while probing and polishing them to perfection. Then, just pick a subject and see where the conversation leads. Alison's patients look forward to their visit to see where she traveled, what big event she has completed, or just to enjoy her friendly personality and appreciate the knowledge she has gained in 10 years of dental hygiene.
You will most assuredly enjoy the banter that goes on between her hygiene room and the adjoining operatory that Dr. Britton occupies. He insists that Alison stay put in this particular operatory because of the close proximity to his...all for his amusement. They have a friendly banter that is quite entertaining at times. Alison is a loyal friend that will lift you up when you’re down or bring you a care package when you’re hurt. Even with all of her tech knowledge she is a bit of a throw back that appreciates the art of gracious manners. She will be the first one to get a thank you note written or to respond to an invitation. Her family ties are tight and she thinks nothing of hopping a plane for a trip to Portland to visit her sister or taking the familiar road trip back to Roswell to see her parents. Oh, and have we mentioned that Alison is funny? She has a dry wit that is accented with the toss back of her head and an audible “aaaahh”! When she does that you know that you have entered a circle of acceptance and familiarity that feels like home. Her hearty laugh is the real gift, but she is warm and inviting with just a smile! Absolutely!!
Betty Ware, Scheduling Coordinator
Betty has been in the dental field for an incredible 34 years. She started out as a dental assistant, and for 23 years she was also flying the friendly skies as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines. She will be the one calmly directing you how to remove your flotation device from the bottom of your chair in the waiting room in case heavy rains flood Rush Creek near the office again!
We were lucky to have her join us in 2010 as one of our front office experts. Her voice is probably the one you will hear first when you call to schedule an appointment, and she charms everyone with her good ol' Southern Sweetness. Her laugh is contagious, and you can always hear it throughout the office. She's a sucker for a good joke, and you can't do anything but smile when you hear it. Go ahead and give it a try!
Betty is compassionate, kind and patient and will do her best to accommodate your schedule and make you feel welcome. She is very knowledgeable about treatment because of her years of experience working with the dentist, and she is great with dental implant treatment coordination. She loves a good shelf or drawer to reogranize and is a fix-it queen! We are pretty sure she can fix anything, as she remodeled her whole house a few years ago--and not by hiring out the work! Betty's penmanship is amazing. Ask her to write you a school excuse and judge for yourself. How does anyone have such perfect cursive these days?
Betty is one of our born and bred Texas girls as she grew up in North Richland Hills, and her whole family lives in the area. She loves to spend time with her mom Dorothy, son, Tommy and daughter-in-law Marissa, and she keeps her cute-as-anything grandkids Bella, 3 and Max, 1 on Fridays. Bella has already come to see us for her first dental appointment, and we got the Kids' Stamp of Approval! When Betty has any free time, she likes to go to the movies, spend time at her family's property on Lake Bridgeport, and is getting into scrap booking out of necessity. Gotta get those photos organized!
Annette Ibarra, Registered Dental Assistant
The arrival of Annette in April, 2011 completed our assisting team. Her wealth of knowledge gathered from over 30 years experience makes our team's ability to solve any challenge unsurpassed. She is proficient in all areas of dentistry and even Dr. Britton is amazed at her skills with denture cases. Her charming, light-hearted personality makes her a hit with patients, putting them at ease immediately.
After growing up all over the world in a military family, she settled in San Antonio where she met her husband, Henry. Annette and Henry have been married for more than 35 years and they have 2 wonderful sons, Jason and Page. She is looking forward to her Page's upcoming marriage in November. Anyone who spends any time with Annette will soon learn that her true love is her miniature dachsund, Ginger. Annette is a coupon shopper extraordinaire and impresses with her skills to get bags of items for next to nothing! She also enjoys cycling with both her sons, making a trip with them for a race every August.
